A NOTE FROM THE FOUNDER
I have always believed that the most interesting stories are often the ones happening right in front of us.
I began publishing books more than twenty years ago, celebrating independent businesses and the people behind them. What interested me most wasn't simply the businesses themselves, but the personalities, relationships and stories that gave each place its character.
When I came to live in London, I found myself drawn to the city beyond its famous landmarks and familiar images. What fascinated me were the people who make it their home, the places that mean something to them and the countless stories that give London its character.
OF LONDON grew from a desire to capture some of those stories.
The Pets of London was our first book. What began as a celebration of the relationship between Londoners and their pets became something much more. Through the people I met and the stories they shared, I discovered a wonderful sense of friendship, community and belonging.
It also made me realise how many other aspects of London were waiting to be explored, each with its own people, places and stories.
And so, one book became the beginning of a Collection.
I don't know what London will look like twenty years from now. And perhaps that's part of what makes creating these books so meaningful to me.
My hope is that, as the years pass, the Collection will become more than a series of books. That each volume will offer a glimpse of London as it once was, preserving something of its character for future generations to discover.
Because ultimately, OF LONDON is about more than a city.
It's about the people, the places and the lives that are lived here.
